Pegasus: Design of a Stratospheric Long Endurance Uav System for Remote Sensing
نویسنده
چکیده
The PEGASUS (Policy support for European Governments by Acquisition of information from Satellite and UAV borne Sensors) project’s aim is to provide an economic way to gather high resolution data (visual, IR and thermal imagery, LIDAR, SAR, atmospheric measurements) from a high altitude platform. Because the platform will not be manned, it will be able to operate continuously for weeks or months. The paper describes the various aspects involved in the design of both platform and instruments. These include optical design, weight considerations, power consumption, data transmission, processing and archiving. The design is driven by the requirements of many remote sensing applications.

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
متن کاملInstrument Design for the Pegasus Hale Uav Payload
In 2000, VITO initiated the Pegasus project to demonstrate the feasibility of remote sensing from a HALE UAV. Ultimately the HALE UAV platform will be equipped with a variety of light weight high resolution remote sensing instruments. The synergy of the onboard sensors thus allows continuous observations, irrespective of light or weather conditions. In a first phase a multi-spectral digital cam...
متن کاملImage Processing Workflow for the Pegasus Hale Uav Payload
The PEGASUS High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system has two major operational modes: (a) large-scale regional photogrammetric and environmental mapping and (b) near real time event monitoring. Given the concept of the HALE UAV camera design (decimetre resolution RGB), a massive data stream of about 0.5 to 1.0 TB/day is expected. The Central Data Processing Centr...

This paper investigates and demonstrates the potential for very long endurance autonomous aerial sensing and mapping applications with AtlantikSolar, a small–sized, hand–launchable, solar–powered fixed–wing unmanned aerial vehicle. The platform design as well as the on–board state estimation, control and path– planning algorithms are overviewed. A versatile sensor payload integrating a multi– c...
متن کاملElectro-Optical Design of Imaging Payload for a Remote Sensing Satellite
Remote sensing using small spacecraft arising from multi-objective economic activity problems is getting more and more developed. These satellites require very accurate pointing to specific locations of interest, with high reliability and small latency. The space borne imaging systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given t...
